hey guys,
Looking into buying a 2006 grand cherokee lardeo, 4.7 V8 auto.
It wont be used as much of a offroad toy, main use will be road driving, with some beach and a lil touring work.
Before I start to go and test drive, What are these like on road? What are they like for beach and dirt road driving?
Were there many things to watch out for in these models? dud engines, transmisions? Any genral problems.
Iam also having problems finding fuel economy info on these?
I have no idea on anything jeep related.
So i come here for advice, Let me know if Im looking into a dud!
Thanks Rory

Fuel economy and Jeep is kinda an oxy-moron
They are great value and the 4.7 while no muscle car is great engine, look for an SRT if you want muscle car style performance
Ride wise they are typically american if you like that then you get a lot of features for the $$$ if your expectations is more car like refinement not sure what you will think of a test drive.

Ride is nice and soft and more car like then most other 4x4.
I prefer the laredo with cloth seats to the limited.
I get 16 to 18 litres per 100 round town and 10 to 11 on highway.
Its a heavy car and stopping and starting all the time chews up the fuel.
The diesel is excellent on fuel if you can get one.

Just to add the diesel is a Merc engine infact the engine is the same as the ML300 Merc
500 odd NM of torque goes well for an oiler

I have an earlyer one 2000 , 4.7 we get around 13-15 -- 100ks
Check heater for proper operation , can cost 3gs to fix - bad core ect .
These are pretty quick for a four wheel drive.

I have an 07, cant fault it. Make sure you lift it, the ride is better on and off road with aftermarket shocks and springs. And if you can get the quadra drive II transfer, electronic LSD both ends works great offroad. Mine is diesel and if you can get one do it over the 4.7. I have mine chipped and exhaust mods and it will fly if i want it to. And it returns 12l/100km towing a 1500kg camper with roof basket and bag.
Just remember though a 2006 will be out of factory warranty. It is still a Jeep so repairs will cost.
