Air leak between servo and brake master cylinder

Hi all,

Seems I've got a leak between the servo and the brake master cylinder, which probably accounts for the doughy brake performance of my (unregistered) 81 Rangie. Is there a gasket in there? Or is it just sealed up with goop?

Dion, if you pull it apart check to see if it has any splits in the rubber bladder, i pulled it apart on my 81 RR and all it needed was aclean up and re assembly and it has been fine now for 5 years !

Ah no I can see / hear the leak - its visible as a 2mm long gap between the two (servo and cylinder). Its not inside somewhere. Though I may pull it all apart and give it a clean up; but that'll mean a brake bleed too, won't it ...

Dion, you can pull it aprt without bleeding it, just undo the ring that holds the 2 halves together and undo the bolt that holds the rod to the brake pedal. It sounds like the bladder is leaking and it is escaping out between the m/s and servo. Mine was leaking vacumn into the car but after being cleaned it hasnt leaked since.

Dion,
If brake fluid is leaking from where the master cylinder bolts to the servo then the master cylinder is leaking. It will be either just the seals need replacing or most probably the bore of the cylinder is worn or rusted and will need replacing.

Nick - thanks, shall do.

Alan - no visible brake fluid - just a vacuum leak (air rushing sound), but shall investigate the seal/bore condition obviously. Off topic - but do you guys check your emails regularly? I sent a query about a bunch of parts a little while ago, but no reply thus far?

Dion,
Yes we do check regularly, but with so many spam mails it could be possible yours may have been deleted accidentally. Also if any messages contain a virus Norton anti virus gets rid of them so we do not see them.
Would you please send your list again to
