Aftermarket alarm on a GV

Has anyone installed an aftermarket alarm in a GV? I've tried a few times to install a Jaycar alarm and for the life of me can't get it to work properly.

I've taped into the door lock/unlock wires in the door lock controller unit (little blue box) under the dash (I don't have wireless entry) and when I try the alarm it doesn't seem to work. I can't even get the remote to talk to the alarm to arm/disarm. Also when the alarm is powered the turn indicators light up constantly even though I haven't taped into the indicator wires yet. That's got me stumped.

Does the GV electrics use something odd that I should know about? I know the lights are negative switched so does that mean all the other electrics are neg switched as well? I've assumed that but still can't get it to work for me.

yeah, ive wired up a viper car alarm in my GV and had no trouble.
the only thing i can say is start simple.

step 1:
give the alarm power and hook up the blinkers with a diode and then hook up the siren.
Now try to turn the alarm on / off. see if it beeps, see if the lights flash.

step 2:
after this run a wire to the door switch. you have to run a wire from every door switch to make it work, if not it will only trigger or go off when you open the door that the alarm is wired to.

step 3:
hook up thew central locking. this is tricky because it takes a neg trigger to lock the doors and a two pulse neg trigger to unlock all the doors. what this means is, you have to program the alarm to pulse two negative pulses to unlock all the doors, but if you dont only the driver door unlocks.

anyway try step 1. if you can't get it to work after that take it back, it's probably stuffed or your doing something wrong.
good luck

I can't even get the learning function between the controller and remote to work either. Maybe the unit is stuffed?

I've hooked up an "add on" system that uses the factory remote.

Regarding the door switches (from memory) I only had to hook up the driver's door and one other door for the whole lot to be covered. I certainly didn't wire up every door.

Hook your alarm up to a battery out of the vehicle and see how it goes. Just hook up the basics to get it to function and then earth out a trigger wire to check it will trip.
