Outer Limits 4x4 Board

I removed the sill tanks from the RR today (they had been disconnected by the previous owner after 1 of the lines got cut offroading, plus I needed to get access to the seat base retaining bolts, which are hidden by the tanks).

I'm now debating whether to refit them or not. To me they look like they will sustain a lot of offroad damage (mine have 1 or 2 minor scrapes, nothing major but the previous owner probably wasn't a serious 4WDer).

Anyone here got them and how do you find 'em offroading?

If I do refit them, I will probably reinstall a bit differently. Mine had the switch to change from main to sill, I would probably like to fit mine with a transfer pump to transfer from the sill tanks to main tank (ala Patrols).

Well if you decide not to refit I will happily give them a new home.

Depends on how much 4x4 you are doing, you probably don't need the range and would rather the clearance

If they have internal baffles/stiffeners they will stand up to a lot of abuse.

I've had 4wd systems sill tanks for 9 years and they have been used to support the weight of the car many a time. No leaks they just look a bit battered.

I've got sill tanks in my 81" dual fuel rangie and they have taken a beating but are holding up well, they are seem to be made of 2mm still with internal baffles and are very strong. There were 2 dents in them when i bought them and there is no way i could get them out without fully rebuilding them.

maybe make the decision based on the need to carry extra fuel.
does the vehicle do longrange trips?
is the ground clearance more important?
or do you just like the idea of carrying lotsa fuel??
