Havent done it but been looking into it. A little bit of info here. http://www.v6conversions.com.au/hilux4runner.htm
Just a quick hijack, Which motor goes better in a hilux 3RZ or V6?, Im talking power wise, fuel consumption and overheating are not issues.

3.8 v6 versus 2.7 4cyl, the v6 surely! Put a near 2 tonne commodore against a lux with a 3rz, commodore wins, put the v6 in the lux and even better.SIMMO84 wrote:Havent done it but been looking into it. A little bit of info here. http://www.v6conversions.com.au/hilux4runner.htm

ive been looking into it myself. bought a commy and everything. but goin to do the 3rz-fe instead. 25% less power but will turbo and fuel consumption will be better. have to get a new radiator anyway as the hoses are on wrong side so im putting bigger 1 in. search definitive guide to 3rz and have a look what ive been following
88 hilux - 3rz+ locked

Mick I had the v6 here to put in mine then discovered the v6 commo chews about 18l per 100k in a lux and the adapter's from Marks was about $2500 I put my 1UZ in for $2500 as I paid $1200 for motor gearbox wiring harness and ecu $400 for davis craig thermo and the rest on bits and peices I am currently getting about 12k/l with my lead foot but some are able to get 9k/L out of them and there are no adapter plates required
Just my opionion sell the V6 and go the 1UZ with auto he won't regret it

commo v6's tend to kill the standard g52 gearbox's, ive done a commo v6 auto conversion into my lux, ended up costing a crapload mor than i thought it would when u add up motor $0 auto built to last $2000 transfer adapter $800 then all the misc stuff radiator engine mounts wiring(easy 2 wire up did it myself) fuel lines tranny cooler, shifter etc etc costs about another 500bux, but if u dont drive it like alot of us do u'd get away with the manual conversion which i recn u could do under the $1500 mark, if i knew all this i would have gone with the 1uz conversion as wood butcher said they use alot less fuel and ends up easier and cheeper. 1uz front cut 2500, chain driven transfer 300bux, then theres the misc shit prob another 500, and theres the bragging rights and the f*ckin awsome note. hope this helps
Just show him the vid from when we where out at Compton rd mick and he will want the 1UZ

I too wanted to put the commo v6 into my lux, but in the end it would turn too expensive. i have ended up going for a carb 253. much cheaper to put in, but with the v6 being fuel injected, it would be better in the long run. I've found upgrading to another toyota motor would be more expensive. sometimes you come along a bargain though.
Yes I have done this conversion is good but still not what he wants, only getting info he wants not every other idea as have already suggested these options. A bit pig headed but will try and steer him away I'm thinkingAcTioN13 wrote:maybe a 22re to replace the old 18r? fuel injected reliability, and cheap. jaykabir has wired one into another mates car and if i remember rightly it was a cheap conversion.
even cheaper than 3rz, but not as powerful. 30" arent big so 22re would do it easy
Cheers all!
