i have a uhf and a am/ssb radio and im needing a new aerial but im wondering if i can just have the one or do i need two separate?

two seperate i believe uhf is 477mhz and am is 27mhz but i did get told once that you can get a dual band one prob best to check with a pro radio shop tho

We have a Uniden UHF/Am radio at work that has only one aerial but it is a purpose built combination radio with matching aerial.

If you want either of the radios to work well, get seperate antennas and mount them as far away from each other as possible.

so it would be out of the question to mount one on the right side of the bullbar and the other on the left? because i dont think there is anywhere else i can mount an antenna

You can mount them right next to each other if you want, but they will work better if they are separated, and opposite ends of the bullbar will be fine.

I have a 27Mhz aerial and 470Mhz UHF(normal uhf band) aerial mounted side by side on the front bullbar, both receive and transmit fine. There is such a difference between the two freq. that they have little or no effect on each other. I also have a HF radio that operates in the 3-30Mhz band, but this is certainly affected by placement of the 27Mhz aerial. If I try to transmit from the HF set with the 27Mhx aerial in position, all power ends up down the 27Mhz aerial - at least thats what the radio techs have told me when I had transmit problems. Receive is ok though. So I just remove the 27Mhz aerial when transmitting with the HF radio and all is fine.
So, in summary, side by side or spread out is ok, however you need to bear in mind any state by state road regs regarding aerials in the field of vision, ie drivers side - you might get pinged for aerial location if they are mounted on drivers side of front bullbar. Mine are on extreme left front bullbar, and have had not problems with the road traffic guys.
You might want to position the aerial in regards ground plane effect , if that is the style of aerial you have, as it can make a real difference to transmit effect. If the aerial is not dependent on a ground effect, just try to get it mounted as high as possible for best range. There are loads of books and articles on the subject, either in library or internet. Whoever sold you the aerial should be able to advise I would think.

ok thanks ...ill most likely end up putting them side-by-side on the left hand side of the bull bar....however fist i have to find a place to actually install the AM/SSB radio ...lol anywho ill work it out
