DGA insurance mate. Provided you're 4WD is legal, and is being used on legal land, you're 100% covered off road anywhere in Australia. Even includes additional camping gear cover etc at no cost. No limit to modifications at all, just needs to be legal (engineered where required etc.)
http://www.dgainsurance.com.au/4wd.htm
The only uninsured part is using the vehicle for competitions, but that's the same for them all.

the definition of road is interesting too. some cover you as long as it is a 'named road' so a mates farm might not be covered but many firetrails etc are.

Nrma full comp covers me offroad, private 4wd parks included. Does not cover you if you are somewhere your not supposed to be. Your car has to be road legal......this depends on the insurerer coz I have had a claim with a different mob and my vehicle was 4 inch lift etc. and they covered the costn of a new engine coz I drowned it! You take your chances with modifications on 4wd's, most of the time they don't worry about it. And if they refuse a claim they have to prove that the modification directly caused the accident etc.

yeah that would be great mate,
if you dont mind!
no seriously i mean lets just say you had full mods ie lift, wheels and lets say you had a rollover like on the beach/dunes would your insurer pay out no probs!
1 50 lift cert not required
2 150 lift certed ,thats know
under a new regs over 50 is classed as competition
only conditional rego, aparently!
know how would you go with ins under the new B/S
or are you only covered for what they call
roads only listed on a map ie smiths rd?

AAMI cover you anywhere in australia, and are pretty good with their agreed value which doesnt depreciate. also were happy with all the mods on my ute, but when you list it on the policy, if you dont know, and the person on the other end of the phone doesnt know if its legal, and they dont ask, you just list whats been done, it could get interesting when it comes claim time...

Your Duty of Disclosure requires you to tell them things which affect the risk they are taking, that they otherwise wouldn't know. You are not required to tell them anything that they know, or should know, in the ordinary course of their business.
Arguably, it's their job to know, in the ordinary course of their business, what the modifications to your vehicle are about. If you have accurately explained the modifications, and they have failed to understand the implications to the risk they take, the negligence is theirs - not yours.
Arguably. I hope you don't need to argue the point.

i dont, its not insured
most things on it are legal, tyres would be the biggest thing i think i would get picked for, but theyre easy to change when its upside down
and i have daily tyres.
insurance threads always interest me, i did the big ring around after reading a few on here, DGA and a couple of the other 4wd insurers dont cover under 25s, and the ones that did were over a thousand dollars dearer than aami. makes you wonder where the difference is...

Or in some cases you have proven that the vehicle is not reoadworthy by breaching the ADRs and state guidelines.

mate of a mate rolled his 04 lux (drunk - c0ck head, but wasnt breath tested).
the car was insured but was a bit too tall and a bit too wide - tyres out past the guards etc.
he is now waiting to see if they pay out - im guessing not as the reason he rolled it was the wider tyres, he clipped a concrete barrier with the part of the tyre poking out past the guard on the inside of a corner.
so his illegal mod caused the crash (or at least made it worse) - not that flexi flare would have stopped it happening. I always find insurance and mods an interesting thing.
but obvious ones like illegally wide tyres are a big risk as they are obvious, where as many other things you would never notice.

crazey you own a 4b primarily to
venture offroad but the cover
isnt comprehensive enough to cover
you off road to a degree.
has any1 here know or been
the owner of a offroad writeoff
and had a full payout!
including rollover,lost to water etc

Nothing is chancing, if your vehicle is unroadworthy, they dont have to pay..
Also if you dont tell them of "things that may change our policy with you" eg speeding fines, or anything they ask you YES/NO in the policy when you sign up, they dont have to either... This was told to me by 2 different companies.
so make your truck roadworthy, and live happily ever after.

Didn't you read my post about DGA?
With the people being told they're covered with people like AAMI off road, I think they had better check their fine print themselves, not just what the phone lady told them.
95% of companies say you are covered off road, but if that 'off' road isn't on a road map, then you're technically not. Of course you could attempt to get around this by lying about where you rolled etc.....
Then there's the fact AAMI don't cover modifications as far as I've seen, bar window tinting and a tow bar perhaps. Every time I've contacted them and said the word mod, they send me to the sister company Just Car Insurance.
Anyways, if all the mainstream companies genuinely covered you in any off road condition/environment, why would companies like DGA even bother with their 4WD policy?
For the record, DGA paid out my 4Runner which was rolled off road, in the mountains up in Qld, on a non gazetted track. It had engine conversion, solid axle conversion, 35's etc.... I'd love to hear the response from AAMI or NRMA when they actually inspect your 4WD with those mods, even if they wrote them down when you phoned and said they're ok.
Some of the features of the dedicated 4WD insurance policy at DGA:
# Cover for imported 4x4s
# No exclusions for modifications
# Cover for damage to a towed trailer
# Cover for personal belongings, portable refrigerators and camping equipment
# The cost of hiring a vehicle (for up to 14 days) if your vehicle is stolen
#$10,000,000 legal liability for Property Damage
# Full off road cover anywhere in Australia
# No limit on the amount of accessories fitted
# Standard excess applies to off road accidents
You don't have to ask them on the phone or read the fine print and wonder if you're covered, it's listed in black and white

yeah fair enough nemisis!i get your point.
part of what you stated is infact fraud!is it not?
hence my part, only cover you to a degree!
if they covered every 4b comprehensively offroad
no one would have to b/s,where it happened!
if they bring in the 150 regs!
its basically offroad only,so to speak!
ok ill give em a call!

They'll only not cover you if you were doing something illegal. Like trespassing or drink driving. If you were one of them you'd be lucky not to be arrested and insurance would be your last worry.
So, if you're allowed to drive there, they cover you. For arguements sakes, if you know the property owners at Milbrodale and they let you drive the Tuff Truck tracks, you'd be covered with DGA

I know a bloke with suncorp full comp, rolled his GU 5 " spring lift and 35's in a place he wasn't supposed to be, made a claim, told them he was somewhere else offroad and they covered him no worries. Hows that for fine print............road legal blah blah blah.

I'm insured with Affinity insurance brokers and the policy covers me for offroad (of course as long as its a track on a map). I have this in writing and they sent me an attachment through email that specifies the 4wd additional points of the policy. They let me have modifications as long as its legal. Haven't needed to use it yet so I can't comment on that side of things. They are in melb so pm me if anyone wants the contact details. I found them a little cheaper than DGA, and I left DGA when they "forgot" to send me a renewal. I noticed a couple of weeks after the policy expired, and long story short wasn't happy with the run around etc so I went elsewhere. Maybe they are better now if they have a more efficient rep for the 4wd side of the insurance as last time I recall there was only one person handling 4wd insurance there at the time.
Just for the guys who wanna compare, Ive got an 80 (1995) comp insurance, market value, rating one and pay $906 a year.

What i'd like to know is how you guys would get insuarance on say a cruiser with a 5" lift and 35's when buy the book it would be to high to pass a RWC making it an illegal mod.
i've got a dull cab luxy 3" spring lift, extened shackles, 33's im under 25, stuffed if i can get any sort of insuarance for it under 3k! suncorp said they would cover it cost me $2800 but there's a 90% chance if i made a claim they wouldn't honour it!
