Ok so it turns over but won't start till i stab the throttle, once running it revs up and down and then works it way to a full stall. If you keep it at about 2k it won't stall but anylower it will die. It seems to do a cycle, run smooth for a bit then the motor kicks and it loses revs. i replaced the filters (there is two on my 85 lwb), replaced the pump with one i pulled out of my working shorty, did an oil change changed all the plugs and leads... im going out now to swap the coil for a GT40... Can someone please tell me if this is common and can someone tell me how to fix it.
Has been sitting on a farm for 7years...

Could be a vacuum leak in your carby or something like the auto choke packing up. My zook did the same thing with the stock carby and it was my throttle shaft had worn out and had created a vacuum leak. What motor/carby do you have? 1.3's can't take gt40's I tried but it was buggering up the rest of the electrical system.

I have run a GT40 on my shorty for the last 6months and it has done nothing to the electrics. I have a 1.3 5speed, original motor
This is my auto choke
It has a bit of wire on it to keep it closed but once i pulled the wire off it ran beautifuly but went straight to 2k. So i adjusted those bolts on the throttle cable and it did nothing??? I pulled the cable out and it stayed the same. Im a boily not a mech, where are the vacum hoses? and should that pot/tank (on the PS right up against the fire wall with two hoses in it) hiss when you turn the car off???

pull the fuel line off at the carb and get an air compressor and blow the fuel line out as it could be something getting stuck at the fuel pickup in the tank if it is you might be advised to pull the tank out and give it a good clean out

pull the carby hat off and while the engine is off just accelerate by hand while looking down the throat to check that the accelerator pump is supplying a constant mist through out the entire rev range. yours sounds like a vaccum problem though. make sure everything is hooked up as it is supposed to be. check for missing hoses and such. just compare between your hardtop and the LWB till you find something that is different between the two. if you have the time maybe swap the carbies around to make sure that that is where your problem is.
also where that piece of wire is there is suppose to be a small spring. you could probably get them from a carby specialist. i am getting a carby reco'ed in the next week and i am going to ask if he can get them. if he can i will grab a few if you need one as there are others with the same problem

ZF you little ripper, yeah if you can grab a spring i would apprectate that. Ok well the GT40 made no difference and im going to buy some fuel/vacum hoses in the week comming, ill try and blow back the lines tomorrow, is the bolt underneath my fuel tank for draining? im thinking it is but if it held somthing up inside it would be a pest...
