custom vitara bullbar

hey guys in the process of building a custom bullbar for my swb carby vitara but no to keen on the factory mounting points has any one mounted there bars any differnt if so where to and do you use it as a recovery point/winch bar
any help will be awsome

ARB put u bolts around the front tubular crossmember to add support.

don't know about vitaras but this is what i did with my sierra.
strengthened the tube chassis bit
welded a bit of plate over the tube and also to the body mount
the bigger plate becomes part of the bar and can also be used as a recovery point.

I welded tapping plates to the end of the rails and my bar mounts to them. Seem to be strong enough i have had the car winching up step hills with no problem.

what thickness tube did you use?

thanks mate that is a good idea i will try and change my design to accomidate that
just wondering seening this car is my every day driver isnt it illegal to weild to the chasy

from memory it was 43mm od with 4mm wall thickness

in the NT it just has to be welded by a certified welder

Is welding to the end of a crossmember like that considered welding the chassis ?
I can understand not welding on the flats, but a tubualr crossmember I would say it would be quite OK ...
All that said, it is always best to check with the relevant authority in your state (believe it or not Outerlimits is not one of em)

I'm not sure if its illegal or not. But its only to the end of the rails so i can't see why not and the mounting plates are pretty well hidden.
