ticking noise out of the engine?

hi all, gotta 1.3 sierra with a ticking noise out of the engine. ticking noise gets louder with the throttle and faster with the revs? i remember my last sierra to do a similar thing but not as bad i guess just doesnt sound right anyways.
any clues

Tappets need adjusting.
Should be worse when cold.

You'll need some feeler gauges and a service manual.

so i dont have a service manual - yet..
can anyone briefly post a guide of how to do it? should be that difficult right?

a rattly tappet is a happy tappet. or a rattly tappet is a lot better then
a tight tappet anyway, get someone who knows how to adjust them
properly to show ya how.

Yes better to err a little on the loose side..... but as your directly loosing valve lift its going to hurt performance.
Saw an article somewhere recently and was quite surprised at just how much effect it had. Pity I can't find it.....
