feedback:80 series aftermarket water temp sender in radiator

morning gents,

just wondering if i could get some feedback on what to look out for when running an aftermarket temp sender in the top tank of the radiator of a 1hdt.

I have a Autometer electric water temp gauge and last night I found a bung in the top tank of the radiator. I was looking for somewhere on the engine to put it but in the short term this seemed like the easiest solution (compared to leaving it just with the stock gauge).

On the way into work this morning it was running at 60c and on the weekend I'll be doing a decent trip which should see higher temps.

So.. if the top of the radiator is the cooler coolant going into the engine (is it?).. what kind of temps should I be looking out for.. assuming the termostat is a ~80c..

Thanks..

Coolant flows out of the top of the engine and into the top tank of the radiator, where it flows down under gravity assisted by the water pump and gets cooler as it goes.

Coolest coolant is at the bottom of the radiator where it is sucked into the motor by the water pump.

What are you trying to achieve by installing an extra temp sensor? That will help you figure the best spot for it.

Where ever you put it you will have to get used to 'normal' for your engine and running conditions and be alerted to a problem if the gauge shows a reading outside what you have become used to regarding as 'normal'
