New Hilux Q's

Tried the search function but you all probably now how that goes.

With all hardish tracks becoming less and less plus the new rules governing vehicle mods looking to come into force I am considering a newish (current model) extra cab Hilux and was after feedback on them.

What is the strength of them like, diffs etc and overall performance. Did have a 100 series but changed to a GU after several diff and gearbox problems and dont want to end up in the same situation. I know the previous model Hilux had diff issues but unaware if the new one does. Will do suspension and lockers to make it more capable and this should enable it to do 95% of the tracks in Vic.

Any feedback appreciated.

For the best place to go regarding newhilux advice, head over to newhilux.net

The current shape hilux has a much better front suspension than the previous shape because it uses front struts instead of torsion bars....you get much better front suspension travel.

The front diff is an 8" unit in size over the previous generation s 7.5" unit, and the front driveshafts are thicker aswell.

Like any fourby you drive it within the vehicles ability......I have a front locker on her and have run 33inch tyres from the first week Ive had her and she is over 2 years old now......

they will surprise many larger fourbies offroad if driven with some brains aswell as right foot.

The tacoma's in the states are running 35's on them with reduction gear transfercases and no one has busted a front locked diff yet without being stoopid......says alot for the strength of them......

hope that helps.
