Outer Limits 4x4 Board

Hi All, Im currently looking at buying a range rover, i have previously owned an 110 and a discovery but never an rangie.

my budget is about 4k, As i live in Adelaide i will have to fly in on the weekend to have a look, from everything i have seen so far in the trader & on the net this is really cheap. kinda to good to be true. ( also on carsales.)

I was wondering what everyone thinks? Is it a good buy or not? (ive been told no books just a good solid truck from the yard)
Any advice would be muchly appreciated, I plan on setting this car up as a tourer, suspension big wheels roof racks etc. thanks brynn

You answered it your self " it's too good to be true" as all things in life if that's the case then it probably isn't.

1st to consider is a Dealer is out to make a profit.... or they wouldn't be in the game.
So what would the dealer have got it for in the fist place. $1500?

Next no mention of kilometers on clock, usually not disclosed on ads for VERY HIGH MILEAGE CARS, as they don't want the punters to loose interest.
Next Rego? is it almost due to renew?
Considering the Age and if it has High Miles there would be no statuary warranty.
They then tend to con people into buying those worthless high priced after market warranties.
Has the Car got a RWC, if not then you could be up for unexpected big$$$$.
Since you are on a budget, why no buy one from an Auto auction yourself, you won't get a RWC or warranty, and you would probably be better off spending the $ you saved and fixing it up yourself and no dealer profit margin built in before you even start?

i think its a realistic price. If you goin that way it be worth having a look at.

thanks for your imput, the rover has done 228000 ks, the lady that i spoke to said it was just a good honestcar with a few scratchers and blemishes and it does come with a roadworthy certificate and possibly rego aswell. price was originally $3999.00. No service history though.

The previous owner was into fishing......so likely the car has pulled a boat in and out of water?

I puchased a car sight unseen from a Sydney dealer. Rust in the floors, sill, rear corners.......but had no rust when i asked them RWC with a car from a dealer means nothing as they have their own mechanic who are generaly very relaxed as they get repeat business.

If it was a great car i would expect the dealer to be asking more for it.

Where's the fishing reference ? I don't see it at all unless it's that sticker on the left rear window which I can't make out. Price might be cheapish but int he current economic climate with reduced sales it may not be that cheap at all. I've been watching the P38's for a while now and most of them have been on there for a while and relisted several times. I've also noticed a few of the previous gen ones keep coming up in the same search. If you cna get cheap flights or it's not out of your way too much it could be worth a look but depends on how rough you are prepared to accept. Certainly must be some issues as it presents well in the photos but then again what doesn't present well in for sale photos.

Ah I thougght that's what it said but not being a fisherman it was not one of the mass retail (BCF) brands I'd commonly heard. So yes rust would be of particular interest but still may be worth the look.

Surely there must be some one in that area to have a look for
bingrames, as his signature says he's in SA, A long trip for him to make if it's not all kosher? Check for rust or overheated engine etc.

Rangies are pretty simple trucks really, if everything works and it drives ok and the body/chassis is sound then it could make a nice cheap rig - worth a look. Old rangies have no resale value so dont discount it on price alone.

Is it really all that cheap? I would have thought it was roughly in price range. But I would expect it to be in very average nick in that kind of car yard.
