Hey guys, I wanna run a stainless snorkel with external filter straight to the intake pipe. My question is do you need to re hook up the vacuum lines to something after the air box has been removed? If so does anyone know what will happen if i dont... or is a bit of touch and go.. Cheers.

Let me get this right. You would like a stainless steel snorkel, fitted with an external air filter, presumably similar to a Donaldson pre-filter?

yeah, i guess so. I want 2 just plum up to the original 3'' inlet pipe that runs straight off the turbo then bring it out through the guard and up the pillar as usual with an external filter on top. Do we need the vacuum lines hooked up.

I think youll have bigger problems than vacume lines

You will find that the bigger hose is a breather from the rocker cover
and has oil mist coming out of it

The other one if i remember correctly should go to a heap of vacuum
valves down near the left hand head light

Just make up your new bit of tube with pick up points for the hoses

yeah the bigger hose from the top of the engine will still be right as it plugs into the pipe im keeping on. But you are right with the vacuum hoses at the left hand front. There the ones i was looking at, i had a look 2day and it looks like they plug into something that can remain after the airbox is removed. It is looking like a goer... Thanx for your help.

What sort of aircleaner are you going to use?

Well trying to get some ideas.. I would of thought one decent air filter would be sufficient as it only uses one to start with?

Using just a pre-cleaner is a BAD idea, unless you plan on only driving on sealed roads.

K&N air filters are just as bad of an idea too. Great for flow, put piss poor for filtration. One of the more qualified OL members (ISUZUROVER) has done testing to prove this. There's a full thread on here covering it.

Do a search on here regarding air filters. There are setups and build threads on here covering air filtration for engines ranging from RB26DETT's right up to V8 Chev diesels with insane amounts of power. Street cars and full offroad racing setups have also been covered.

Depending on your budget, as far as high performance AND excellent filtration goes, Tomahawk Racefab make a good kit, or you can buy a Donaldson cartridge/cylinder assembly that suits your requirements.

Saying that, there's an OL member that has an RD28T in a GQ that puts out pretty impressive power - might pay to dig up his thread and see what he used.....

cheers mate for your ideas. Like i said im after a bit of info first before any decision gets made. So that is helpful. I originally just wanted a normal snorkel setup but the location of the second battery has stuffed that up.

Dual batteries can be a pain to work around, however there are also a few threads that cover air box installs that work around the second battery.
