gday guys i just bought an engel 40L and old mate reckons he left it on 24/7 running 240v in his house keeping beer cold. Is it better to leave it running all the time? or leave it for couple months without using it?
cheers dez

I was told to keep it running so the seals don't dry out.
My engel has been 24/7 for the last 18 months, either in the truck or at home and hasn't missed a beat.

if you dont keep them running they get fat and drink the beer.

I only run mine when needed, I havn't had a problem with seals but I havn't heard anything about the seals drying out in the first place.

Fridgy bloke i use for my 3way said should run them every 6-8 weeks.
And if you own a 3way store in a garbage bag or similar so insects don't get into the jets.

Engel do not recommend you run them 24/7 but that obviously does not mean they cant handle it, as you can see from the replies.
However evakool do say that their danfoss compressor in the FridgeMate range will be fine ran 24/7
I have Evakool 70L it takes up a little more space than the engel, but fits twice the tucker.
Its been in 2 rollovers, loves life.

From experience it doesn’t seem to matter. A mate and I purchased one each 10 years ago. His has been off half a dozen times, mine has been on for weeks and off for months all over its life – neither has missed a beat. Ii suggest if you need another fridge – use it, if you don’t run it when you need it only.

Compressor fridges, such as the danfoss, and fuji ones do not need to be left on all the time to lubricate seals.
They are a sealed system, no seals to leak.
This rationale comes from when compressors did have seals that could leak such as your car ac system, where regular running does help the system stay in better condition than if its not used.
Or with older fridges that if left off for a period of time, the high pressure side of the system would leak back into the low side, and leak out of a corroded part of the evaporator, or weak spot due to age.
If you need extra fridge space, then by all means use them, but if your running them thinking that if you turn them off, they will be adversly affected, then maybe your on the wrong track.
If storing them, keep them in a dust free, dry environnent, with lid open.
And run them for a few hrs every few months if you wish to.
cheers
