Haven't done it, but own one and have had the rear lights out and i cant see why you would have a problem.
I have done a cut to my GQ so i know what is involved. Internally i dont think there is anything in the way.
Good luck

I cut about 2cm down from the line and used a flat peice of steel to mark the back edge, made tabs on the front to fold under and where i could on the back, the rest I cut off as even as I could.
Watch out for the wires on the drivers side, I used a hole saw to relocate them, bit of a trick but not hard.
I've heard of people capping the bottom using rivets and silicone but that seemed a lot harder than just a wield
I got some panel scraps big enough, cost me a six pack from the local panelbeaters, held it in place and cut it bit by bit until it was close to what I wanted.
I painted the bits that would be inside the panel before putting it together, etched the steel, under body deader on the bottom and some top coat to make it look factory.
Cutting and stuff took most of the day with some easy painting over 3 days,
Hope this helps, will try and suss out how to post pics
