Other than tow an anchor or rob a bank no.
Good 4x4 pads and slotted rotors.
Other wise GU 4.8L stuff.

Chase up the 4.2l efi ti front rotors and calipers. They are twin piston and thicker rotors. They should bolt straight in. Braided flexible lines can improve pedal feel and stopping performance.

I run Snake racing Braided brake lines to all 4 corners and down to both diffs.. Gold mate, Gold. no doubt.
I have also upgraded my rotors to slotted jobs that i sourced off the internet and they are great
I am turning 35's and have not much trouble pulling up. I would highly recommend this setup.

Since both have been suggested for a GQ TD42, what's the differance between GQ 4.2EFI brakes and GU 4.8EFI brakes?

From an old patrol forum thread
Physical size and different calipers. You would somehow need to mount the calipers which wont bolt up to the stock GQ mount positions, then run 17inch rims.

The 4.8's have a one off size. Biggest of all Patrols. Not sure but would assume that the would bolt on to any Patrol diff. Doubt that the mounts would have changed. But you must run 16" rims to fit them.

all depends on how fast you go and how many times you want to stop.
As a 89GQ on 35s with fresh pads and slotted disks. It dosent take many application and the brakes are cooked. I would say my fix of fitting a GU front with twin pot calipers and larger disks will be fine for me.
But anyone that races such events as the OBC and Cliffhanger would over heat there brakes to the point of the car not stopping easily on the longer Nav stages. It would be worthwhile.
Also there not for everyone. But when these guys have an easy 90grand in there cars. Whats $6000 to make it stop.
Plus there shiny and everyone loves shiny things.
