Post by muppet_man67 »

Im interested as to how people prepare before going into remote areas. what kind of servicing do the do to their cars? what essential equipment do they take, eg recovery, spares tools ect? extra supplies, fuel, food, oil ect?

epirp , spare tyres , tools fuel water , wire , spare nuts and bolts , air compressor , spare oil (eng and gearbox/transfer ) shovel , axe, or small chain saw. matches , puncture repair kit , assorted fuses, spare fan belt , snatch strap winch or turffer d shackles whinch extension strap , tree protector , (or ground anchor depending on tree avalability ) torch , first aid kit . food and basic camping gear if overnight .

of course it depends on the terrain and the time you plan on staying out there .

before you go check all oil levels , air cleaner belt tensions etc check unis for play check eng and transfer mounts check ubolt and suspension bolts for looseness (id been driving around for some time before i realized my u bolt nuts were on finger tight  ) alternator mount bolts (just found my alt was held on purley by the adjusting braket bolt   ) .
or just go out unprepared , by the time you walk 200km you would have thought of plenty of things to take next time , if you don't make it there'll be no next time to worry about . :D
good luck
