40 series onto 60 series?

First things first HELLO to all. I am your typical first time caller long time listener on this excellent site and appreciate the access to the knowledge and passion that is freely displayed.

Q. Instead of buying 40series and going through the usual upgrade mods ie: fitting 60series power steer, diffs, brakes etc has anyone tried fitting a 40series body either swb or ute cab to the 60 chassis.

I figure if you use the body from the same year ie: 81 model 40 cab to 81 model 60 chassis you would comply with the applicable body adr's and would only have to engineer the body mounting points if they didn't line up with the std. 60series locations. Does this sound feasible?

All thoughts/opinions appreciated as i think this would be the most cost effective way of achieving my goal.
Goal= 40series custom extra-cab ute, bobbed chassis, custom tray with boring reliable 2H grunt for everyday use.
It probably would be simpler to extra-cab the 60series body but not as tough a fnished product (only my opinion, you can't beat the 40's profile) and it would require a good 60 body to start with, much easier to find a 'good mechanically' 60 with rusted out shell.

Thanks in advance and sorry for the drawn out questions for a first time post. Cheers.

g'day,
good to see another local from diamond creek joining the ranks ;)

it could be done that way. but probably about the same amount of stuffing around. the end product would turn out slightly different.

the 60 chassis is wider at the front and the wheel base is shorter than a 45.

the wide chassis at the front means the 40 guards wont go on as easy. and id pretty much garantee the cab mounts will need modifying.

this could be a good thing tho. you wouldnt need body lift blocks just make the mounts higher.

i could be wrong but i think the 60 series cab/engine sit over the front axle a bit more. so when fitting a 40 series cab on the axles would be sitting closer to the firewall. could fix this by custom springs with the pins in a different position.

just use the parts off the 60 series for the 40/45. slot the gearbox and engine in. then the diffs and powersteering. powersteering wasnt really that hard to do.

but as most things modified you will have to work out problems as you go.
