Hi, fitting a trans cooler to my GQ and want to find out a few things.
1, should i still run it through the factory radiator cooler or bypass it all together.
2, if i am to use the radiator cooler as well, which one should the fluid run through first.
3, which side of the auto does the hot fluid exit from?
Cheers.

Hi mate,

Just did the same to mine a couple weeks ago. i had my factory auto radiator re-cored with a triple core. for 2 weeks i ran a manual radiator with the external cooler - it didnt get too hot, but after speaking to my uncle (mechanic) he had alot of dramas with vehicles set up this way, he suggested the radiator ones are particuarly efficent.

So when i got mine back i used both coolers. Davies craig recommends adding the external cooler after the factory one.

take the car for a drive, then while it is still running lay under the front and touch the 2 transmission hoses - onewill be hotter than the other.

Cheers
Stew

I run 2 external coolers in series with no problems and have done for over 100,000 kms.
My normal trans temps in day to day driving are between 45-60C and when towing our caravan it goes up to 90C.
I also have a manual lockup switch so I can lock up the torque convertor when I want and I tow in 3rd gear with it locked in.
The simple act of locking the torque convertor decreases temps markedly.
Regards Andrew.
