just wondering if any one has had isues using the vac pump as a return 1/8bspt is really small for a return in which the oil in is the same size under pressure. Mine seems to pressurerise to much and blows the oil out the exhaust so now ive got the sump off and am brazzing a fitting into it. just curious now to c if any one esle has had these issues i used a t peice not a y peice too.
cheers Tye

Personally i've always used large sump drains, however plenty of people have used T-peices with high-mount setups. The more recent DIY conversions on OL, people have used Y-peices for obvious flow benefits.
I'm pretty sure one of the aftermarket turbo mobs actually supply plumbing to use the vac pump oil return line for the turbo as well.

yeh thats where i got it from turboglide and dts used the vac pump. but the drain just doesnt keep up . at first i thought the turbo was buggered but then realised the whole line was pressurising ahh well sump will be back on tomorro with the drains. cheers

isnt it tru there is a little grub screw in the side of the block that is suitable for turbo drainage points. im yet to look to see if mine has one. its pretty much right above the passenger side engine mount

No, thats for an oil feed. Also note that there are 2-3 GQ TD42 plumbing variations, and 2-3 GU TD42 plumbing variations (water and oil plumbing that is).

well ive got it all in now with the return to the sump no dramas at all now just got to hook the pyro up and adjust the fuel seems to go real well.
i was afraid the turbo might be to big but the seems to spool queit quickly and whistles really really loud.

There is and there isn't.. it just depends which engine you have.. some factory turbos drain through a fitting in the side of the block just above the sump.. my N/A engine has the casting for it but the hole hasnt been drilled. others have a bung there..
Hope this helps

gudday
with the garret roller setups there's a 0.75mm restricter that should be installed in line before turbo, this prevents too much oil flooding bearings and eventually compressor housing then combustion chambers/exhaust.

i thought that was the case and as i said i havent actually looked at mine yet. to busy but if the plug is there i reckon id just use that saves removing the sump and stuff. but removing the sump has its benefits as well.
and also so that little bung is actually a high pressure feed point. the one basically on the lf engine mount?

yeh mine had no bung and its a 88 model just remeber to make your return bigger then you intake. other wise it fills your turbo and exhaust up with oil..

return should be 16mm+. Normally there is a restriclor in the garrett ball bearing turbo's built into the pin that retains the bearing. This may not always be the case so check it out.

This may seem like a silly question but is your turbo a hi mount..
For a hi mount setup I had no problems using a t piece into the side of the block for oil return. It saved some effort but I still think the sump is a more elegant approach...

yeh its a high mount the turbos a t3 off a vl holden thats been hi flowed and ball bearing internals, i was told by a few performance shops that the return should be near double the intake... but yeh my old nissan had a hight mount dts kit and it had no problem returning into the vac pump.
