Trail Gear diff breathers.

Has anyone used the Trail Gear diff breathers and are they available here in Australia?
http://www.trail-gear.com/diff-breather.html
After sucking a gutful of water into my diffs and redoing the front end, I want to re do the breathers front and rear.
On my old Hilux i used the hose and filter method with good results but I'm looking for something a little tidier and not having to run hose everywhere and the Trail Gear ones look like they fit the bill perfectly.
Anyone had experience with these breathers or can recommend something similar?

They are a bit funny looking, but a bloody good idea!

i was looking/ thinking of a nice easy/ neat way to do diff brethers. this way looks nice, but i hate waiting for things to be ordered in!
could i connet a line from the top of the dif then the other end into the air box? this way it would be filtered air and it will be as dry as what the engine is brething.
would this work ok or not?

Thanks mate will look into it.

Correct me if I'm wrong but breathers also vent outwards which would mean it would vent into the airbox? I don't know if this would cause any harm, perhaps someone could enlighten this further?

only if the diff oil made it up the line into the airbox... pretty unlikely given the expansion/contraction likely in a diff housing. Also, having it in the airbox where theres a snorkel etc attached would mean positive pressure in the airbox pushing down the diff's airline.

Now they look like a great idea, just need a bit of pipe or similar around them for armour plating.
Cheers

Wouldn't be worried about the wait, I've never had to wait long for any of my orders from locktup.

to gain possitive pressure in the airbox you would have to be going along the road at 200+ kmh!

Could there be a problem with the lower pressure area after the filter due to the engine sucking?

its probably easy to pressurise the airbox with a snorkel. I reakon at 100km/h just take your foot off the accellerator while coasting in neutral....

i was even thinking just a gear change at highway speeds... let alone if you did it into a headwind.

they look like a pretty good idea, only thing i would be concerned about is them deteriorating or being ripped off, i think it would take a little more effort to get the hose i have on there ripped off, but still a good idea, i might consider them, specially for 20 bucks

DO NOT PUT ANY BREATHER INTO AN ENGINE INTAKE AIRBOX!!!!
The vacuum WILL create a low pressure in the diffs/gearbox/transfer and when going through water, they will suck water in past the seals.
99% of all externally facing seals only seal one way....

ahh yeah thats a fair point. looks like ill be using some clear hose and some fuel filters!

I reckon you would need a lot more volume than that to allow for expanding / contracting air from hot to cold.
Anyone prove me wrong?
Not big enough volume.

Glad you said it, Maybe in a comp rig but I would never seal any diff housing ( thats what you are doing with these) on a daily driven rig. 99% of hub seals I do at work are due to blocked breathers And something that has the volume of approximatly 100c will never allow for for the expansion of approx 20L of oil and air. IMHO

what he said ^^
I tried this on my TD 80series, there was definite signs that oil was being drawn up from diffs into the air box.
And a snorkel is not going to give any measurable 'ram' effect at the speed any street driven 4by will reach

That could be a problem. As once the bellow fully expands its going to start blowing seals real fast.

i thought i would throw it out there as it didnt look like " the leaky air locker problem " had been looked at
