Do you mean the transfer stick wont go to high or its just not kicking back i nto high??
Is it in N when you try to change it back to high range?
Does the light on the dash go off when you go forward?
Have you put it in high and gone back a bit and then forward?

It might not be your front diff at all, could be your lock up torque converter. Mines doing it aswell. What signs point to it being the front diff? If its your torque converter, when you go to take off it feels like its in low range (when in D 4th gear) and as you get faster something kicks in and it finally starts to pull away at speed. Putting it in L (1st gear) should make it pull away off the line normally. But at 90 kph and on there is a clunking grinding noise plus vibrations.

nah my front diff has had it its making a knocking sound and than locks up so i think it might be the crown wheel, but with the transfer case problem i do try to get it back to high range when its in N but it fills like its not engaging. all the gears work because i drove it back from lithgow in low range at max of about 65kms. so i think it might be the selector?!

The centre diff needs to be locked to drive with no front driveshaft. If you dont have a centre diff lock switch you can only do that by putting it in low range.

the problem is that its stuck in low range. so when its stuck in low range that means its already locked, im trying to wonder why it wont go back into high range!?
