Hey guy, I went through all the posts before I put this up!

I am interested in putting a 253 (4.2) Holden V8 into my BJ40, and I am looking to join the V8 straight to the original 4-speed tojo box.
I would like to hear from people, who have done this or have had a mate do it, to answer these questions,

1) How hard was it to do
2) If there were any problems, what were they and how were they overcome?
3) Anything else that should be noted or said, ie was it worth it etc.

I have talked to the transport guys and they said I didn’t have to upgrade the brakes (in Tas this is)

Thanks very much

i put a chev in but id say most of it is universal

depending on the bellhousing you get there are a few options.

if you get a standard length bellhousing like the dellow. you will have to bring the gearbox forward around 3 inches. this works good when changing to a 5 speed as you dont need new tailshafts.

are you going to run it on petrol or gas or both?

if you dont mind me asking, but why a 253?

all that effort could get you an extra 97cu in of power.

i think the chev blocks are smaller and skinnier than holden blocks. which makes for fiting exhausts easier. and leaves more room for accessories like A/C, power steer pump, endless air.

Thanks for getting back to me guy’s,

The reasons for the 253 are the price of the donk, and I don’t have to upgrade the brakes to disks if I use this motor. Also, it will deliver more torque and power in bog condition than the petrol 6. I take the 5 speed gearbox you talk of is out of a 60 series, so do you use the transfer case out of the 40 or the 60 on the back of it?

I going to keep it on petrol, but might consider gas.
