I have a Magellan Triton 400 Adventure Pack, it does everything i want, im still learning it but.
But 9/10 of my mates NOW after i bought it, say that there's only 1 name in NAvigation, GARMIN.
Mine is fully loaded with topographic maps of Australia.

How much do you want to spend?
IMHO the best setups are the ones that run oziexplorer and then you can use the electronic hema maps.

Magellan are the best for mapping
but for the price Garmin still have decent maps, Oregan 200 or 300 is the way to go at the moment

What about the Hema Navigator?

I am looking at the Hema Navigator also. It seems a well supported and bundled package. Speaking with Melb Map Center, a new, revised and reduced price unit is being released in September. None of the features are to be reduced in performance.
I have read a review that gave problems with the mounting bracket being weak and failing after extended use on corrugated roads, but this could be due to a range of factors as well.
Still, interested to hear from anyone who has actually purchased one.
I am also going to look at the Magellan range, but believe the price of the unit, plus the maps will be much higher than the Hema unit, especially after Sept

They would want to reduce the price considering that you can make your own for half the price. They are essentially a Mio running Route 66 street mapping software and Oziexplorer running Hema maps.

Ive installed Oziexplorer CE on my PDA and run the maps on that.
The Mio hack is pretty easy. Google is your friend.
Here is a link to get you started.
