Gearbox oil?

Post by hudson44 »

My Paj has a little bit of crunching into 3rd when cold like the synchro's are binding. Is it better to use a thicker or thinner oil with warn synchro's? I'm currently running Castrol VMX-80 which is great for FWD cars but am thinking it's a little thin? Any theories?

stick with the 80 if you go to 90 or more you may end up with a lot of crunching.

Been there, given up on that.

Castrol VMX-M is specially formulated by Castrol to work in this box. I believe it's also 80 weight, but with different additives. It didn't fix my problem.

There's also a specific Castrol synthetic recommended for this box. I can't remember the details, but they're here somewhere - all you have to do is make Search work.

Edit: Try here.
