Outer Limits 4x4 Board

Hey folks,

my POS is even more of a POS now. ROTFL

I am geting mega death wobbles when travelling slowly or slowing down (40km/h - 0km/h).

It's not a consistant problem. Only happens occasionally and with different forces each time. Most times it's enough to rip the steering wheel from my hands and make the whole zook shake.

I've checked the bearings and tyre pressures. All OK.

The only things I can think that may cause it now are:
- worn or loose tie rod ends
- steering box needs adjustment
- worn steering knuckle oil seal
- wheel balance and/or alignment


before I got get the wheels balanced and aligned I'd like to eliminate the other possible causes. Anyone know how to check the other things properly.

anyone have any other ideas or experienced such violent wobbles with their zooks?


help needed ASAP as this is my daily driver. :(

too add. maybe a warped front disc rotor?

You do have discs?

I know nothing bout zooks but had similar prob.

I didn't realise that a warped rotor could have such a dramatic effect, like violent wobbles.

are you running bias or radial tyres? mine used to do it with a fawked TRE, and bias ply tyres

well, it might be a little to early to tell but it looks as though I've found the problem. well one of the many. ROTFL

after a quick steering box adjustment and an even quicker strap around the local road works deliberatly aiming for all the pot holes and bumps I'm pleased to say that the death wobbles APPEAR to have gone.

but only time will tell as this was an intermittent problem. I do however have to go back downstairs now and back off the adjustment a little as the steering is a little stiff now. ROTFL.

skippy your problem is inside your steer box. your box is commonly called a ball and nut the problem arises when the nut component wears. then u go and put on bigger tyres and raise the car compounding the problem . the way to fix it is either change steer box or increase castor angle or both. putting on a heavier steer damper or tightening the box will only mask the problem and make it worse to the point of rolling the car on the road . also rotating tyres or increasing road pressures can also help.lol

drive to shop = not ok !!!
rag joint in steering decided to let go , just when pulling into car space !! DOH !
milllion turns on wheel , but kept going straight !!!!
almost into side of brand new bravo !!!
