why in exchange for engine life?, as far as i know it is purley for emission control. At certain revs and temps a valve opens feeding exhaust into the inlet manifold which helps burn up the 'nasties' that otherwise are put into the air.

So by getting rid of it effectively you are burning cleaner air/fuel so i would have thought it would make the engine last longer.
I always get rid of the egr unless asked to leave it in......

plus my moma told me "never eat your own sh*t" and that goes for engines too!

hey guys, on mine 2.8td gq there is a pipe that runs into the intake manifold at the top of the manifold and it screws in, with two 12mm bolts from memory. all you do (iv been told) is unscrew those two bolts and block off that pipe so none of the exhaust emissions are recyled into the manifold.
