I've just done a head gasket on my TB42, i need to get it warm so I can set the tappets, but it pops and backfires and makes bad noises that I dont want to run it too long for fear of damage, how should I set the tappets cold so they will be close-ish?

ive never done this or had to do them but id say do em but just get make the cap a couple of thou bigger and should allow for the expansion when hot. and make the exhaust cleareneces a little bigger than the intake ones as they get hotter again.
hope this helps.

Hi there,
I had my 91 gq at a mechanic's (specialty --- patrols) and he said to set both exhaust and inlet at 0.33mm cold. After I adjusted mine to this it runs sweet.(gained an extra 100km's from a tank of gas)
