Snapped Diff studs

Snapped one of the bottom 8mm studs that holds the diff center in on the housing on the weekend.

Must have landed the center or tailshaft on a rock with a bit of force.
Since i've shaved the housing I think the crown wheel hit and took most of the corners off the gear.

What should I do to stop this????

# Stop landing on rocks is one!!

Should I step up to 10mm studs for the bottom two??

a little 6mm skid plate off the back of the bottom of the housing may work well

Why are you still using studs on the bottom 2 of a shaved diff?
they should be gr10 M8 'BOLTS' not the pissy gr5 studs.

remove studs

retap the M8 to clean threads

buy M8x40 12.9 GR Button head screws

screw in from inside of housing and use M8 nylocs with spring washers on the outside

like this

I shaved the diff too much and don't think I will be able to get the bolts in at the bottom. Was thinking of tapping the bottom two out to 10mm.

What do ya think.

Maybe I need to get the die grinder out and make clearance for the bolts....

If you do that your going to need to make sure all your spare centres are the same. And carry a drill and drill bit for when you need to borrow a centre from someone else.

I would just pull the studs out and use cap head bolts.
