Righto, so I have a 1986 mk patrol SWB 3.3TD. I have got probs with it surging and jolting from what feels like fuel starvation. But this only happens in 4th or 5th or when I have to drop to 3rd on a steep hill. Only under full or heavy throttle this prob happens. Even on flat ground when sitting on 100 I try to accelerate to a higher speed and it only picks up very very slowly gets to about 110 and starts to playup. Then if I hit the slightest of hills it will die down forcing me to drop down to 4th. When it is playing up real bad after being held flat for a little bit I push the clutch in and it dies and the filter light comes on. I have flushed the tank, bled fuel system, changed filters. Could it be buggared injectors or more likely the injector pump. Anyone know what the pumps are worth fitted. Im in Ipswich QLD if someone could reccomend a good diesel mechanic to take it to. Thanks.

Have you cleaned a small filter in banjo bolt in lift pump(bolted to injector pump)?

try removing the engine shut off cable first, to stop it just put is in top gear and let the clutch out to stall it.

I had an issue where the shut off would cycle from start and run positions under full load causing similar symtoms you described but didn't stall.

Sounds more like a fuel blockage in the banjo bolt filter or colapsing rubber fuel lines. The rubber lines can delaminate and under full load can suck shut.
