Any pitfalls in buying a V6 vitara?

Gday,
time for me to get a fourby again, The lifted/chopped/flexed shorty GQ is long gone and I am looking towards a post 98 Grand Vitara LWB V6. I intend to do mostly touring and towing my 600kg Quintrex around, with some trips to fraser down the track.
Are the engines fairly robust, and is there any problem things i should check out when looking at examples. I intend to get one with less than 150k on the clock.
I have not found much info on V6's.
cheers Brunsy

I looked at getting one of the newer grand vitaras but was put off by the lack of aftermarket gear such as dual wheel carriers, decent bullbars and rear bars, lift kits ect.. If you dont plan on modding them or setting them up for full on touring they seem quite good. I got a landcruiser.

from what i heard the V6 vitara has a thing about the timing belt/ chain loosing tension .. so you gotta check it every so often

you just have to do the correct oil change procedure.

and hope the last owners did too.
I haven't some across a 2.0 V6 that didn't have noisy timing chains. Once the fix is done, they are a nice smooth motor, but it's a fairly expensive fix ( I recall over $1K drive in, drive out.
I believe the fix is now an upgrade that improves life, but if you come across a V6 and it hasn't been done, I'd be budgeting for the tensioners to be replaced.
