80 Series Rear Air Conditioner

Can anyone please tell me if it is possible to fit a Rear Airconditioner unit to an 80 Series.
I am nearly certain i have seen cruisers with them fitted at some stage but i arent sure what model it was.
The reason i am chasing one is I have 4 kids and the 2 in the very back are going to roast once summer actually hits up here in QLD.
Any info would be very helpful.

Dunno about 80 series, but the 60 series Sahara's and VX's had rear air cons. (I have a VX that has one) Maybe the 80 series Sahara's had them fitted or optional??
The rear air con is just an extension of the normal system, with extra piping that runs underneath the car. (also runs the drink chiller/ice maker) if you have one fitted
the only issue I have with mine is that there is a large box approx 400H x 300W x 250T that sits in the right hand rear side that is a PITA when you are packing stuff the back.
I have heard that the rear 60 units are sought after as people fit them into other vehicles, but that said they are probably more common that 80 series rear a/c units.
If you are good with your hands you might be able to make one up and fit it yourself.

Rear air only came in Saharas or import VX's. To do the conversion properly you would need all the plumbing from a Sahara as the rear system is kinda standalone. In thatI mean the gas system is or course the same but the plumbing and electricals and evaporator/fan etc are all dedicated for the rear. The fan/evap etc for the 80 are inside the right hand rear trim panel. You would need the Sahara overhead air vent set up and would also need the right side trim panel as it is shaped around this vent pipe as it runs up the side of the interior. There is a fair bit of work involved in fitting the ice box to a GXL let alone the full rear air. Not to say it can't be done but can you afford to do ti right. No point doingg it half arsed and cheap and finding it is still no good in the rear.

Yea i got a 92 Sahara and it has the rear air. its fairly good but quiet noticable load on the engine ive got the 1hd-t and it does burn a bit more juice when u have got it on for a fair while but saying that it turns the car into a fridge fairly well

gee thats alot of effort to go to for rear air con.
but it is awesome in the ones ive seen.
hehe, its only the kids in the back. buy them an icee pole once in a while.

Spot on, you will need the switch for the front also. the trim panel as said is a must, it is also wider, the icebox plug is in the gxl wiring loom, its a 3 pin, power, earth, a/c switch and plugs right in, its the lines that cost the $.

Got the paint but haven't quite got around to it yet. Going full original silver but ditching the burgundy. Been doing general tidy up here and there but bit lazy. In middle of replacing the brakes with the later stuff and got carried away painting diffs, arms, chassis etc.
