What engine will fit into a triton

Post by destef1 »

Hello,

My 97 trition has a tired 4g64 as it has done 300ks , I am having such a hard time finding an affordable 4g64 - most places want over $2800 for a second hand engine.

Does anyone know if I can fit a 2.6lt egine from a magna or sigma?

Im pretty sure my intake manifold wont fir so will the head from my 4g64 fit on to the 2.6 motor?

Mine is manual so from what I can understand manual and auto engines are slightly different

Any advice would be good,

Also my ute is not registed at the moment so I need to be able to pass a RWC so v6 engines are out of the question.

There are two different block widths on both the 4G54's and the 4G64's, measured between the lower block mounting points 300 or 330mm Sigma autos are 300mm manuals are 330. Check first with your RTA re the engine swap. Tritons did come out with the 4G54 but only to about 1996 if yours is a 1997 to 1998 you might have issues.

I messured my engine and its 335 between the lower bolts.

Does anyone know if the head of my 4g64 would bolt onto the 4g54?

Also what is the 2.6lt engine found in magnas? is this a 4g54 too?

Thanks

No the 4G54 and 4G64 heads will not interchange. You need a 4G54 from a manaul [Sigma or Pajero], a Magna is a narrow block so forget that plus the timing cover is set up for a front wheel drive

Oh right, Thanks heaps for the info guys!

I supose my manifold from the 4g64 wont bolt onto a 4g54 either?

Its very hard to find a 4g64 second hand for under $2500

So im looking at alternatives, but its proving to be a big challenge!

Thanks for the info guys, if you know of any other engines that my fit let me know.
