Ive been told 100 series 1FZFE should not have gas injection

Hi Guys i recently bought a 100 series 1FZFE auto 99 model with a ''LO GAS'' injection system. It has a few dramas such as dropping from over drive back to 3rd gear when i take my foot of accelerator, gear box mob reckon its the gas system where its wired into throttle position sensor gear box is fine.

It only runs on petrol when it wants too, doesnt like running on fuel when warm. Runs on gas okay but pops under bonnet when warm and i put my foot down. Have had it tuned with no success.

So far two places have told me the 100 series should NOT have an injection system on it because they dont have a oxygen sensor and the system wont know how much gas to inject. The place that fitted it says it reads the injector pulse and its okay, other two places say it still wont work properly.

Before i rip the system off has anyone else got gas injection with good results. Could you please let me know.

Cheers

thats the same engine as the 80 series, an they have an oxygen sensor, maybe see if you can adapt it. ive got gas on mine but its not injected, runs ok, does ocasually over rev when down gearing, not cool when trying to slow down with gears but my oxygen sensor on exhaust is broken.

Ive got gas injection on my 80. Sweet as. My mate fits the gas for a living. He just rebooted the computer and told me to drive the way I normally do on petrol for a while. When I came back he plugged his laptop in and just matched the blue sqaures (petrol used at every 500rpm) the the new yellow sqaures (gas). Had to get it retuned after a 1000's ks as pressures change. But sweet as. No drama's at all. Drives better than petrol.

the 100 series 1fz-fe is slightly differant to the one in the 80 i.e no o2 sensor or dizzy.

can they install a o2 sensor in your exhaust.

How many ks do you get with gas injection and what size is your tank

Hmmm, interesting... Is it the same computer as in the 80? I wouldnt mind swapping out engines then as I dont like the dizzy much for water.

I spoke with my mate and he has done a few 100 series. He also said he can tune it after I change my comp and a maffless tune. So O2 sensor wont be needed. It sounds like you have alot of other problems first in regards to only runs on petrol when it wants to... Something is seriously not set up right.

Thanks guys for the info, i have managed to get the car yard involved and its going to a gas place next monday.

I have searched as many posts as i could and it seems the opinions are divided on injection or the old system for the 100 series.

Ive only been able to put about 90 litres in it and as far as k,s go im not sure as i only get to drive it on weekends, ive asked the wife to check it for me though.

As far as fitting an o2 sensor ill ask the gas guy to see if he can do it for me.

If he cant sort the problems out ill get him to disconnect it and see if it sorts out the probs i have.

Cheers,
Mak

Dont even bother with the old system... Im pretty sure the 100 series still run the airflow metre. 1 back fire and your up for $400 for a new 1. And on the old system they do backfire until the pressures settle and its tuned propperly.

they have a taller/longer intake manifold than the 80 series for more torque and more flow in the head some were bigger ports or shaved head/ more compressin or some thing and they turfed the dizzy for coil packs but i think the rest is the same

Sounds a bit iffy to me. I'm running a 100 series on gas injection. Its a LPGas1 install and has not skipped a beat after 12 months. The car pulls harder up hills on gas than on petrol.

I don't have an o2 sensor. The gas ECU works out the amount of gas to inject based on what the standard petrol ECU has calculated is the right amount of unleaded to inject.

Economy on unleaded 17-19 L/100. On gas 22 - 24 l/100

Cheers,

Mark

Cheers for all the info guys, after changing the gas computer and having the gas injectors drilled out bigger it runs perfect on gas now.

The not running on fuel when warm turned out to be the fuel pump relay. No mechanic could solve it they all pointed at the gas system, i worked it out after searching the net and decided to try it.

A week after i replaced the fuel pump relay it stopped kicking out of overdrive back into third when i took foot off accelerator. I have know idea if it was related or not.

Cheers,
Mak.
