hi all,
well after much thought im doing the chassis swap to get the most out of my gq ute. it currently has leaf all round and is a nightmare to drive over bumpy ground and also flexes like a semi. and with the leaf pack in the back would prob carry close to it 2..
so by luck i got hold of a gq marvrick diesel 5speed wagon of my aunty and uncle who after it being the famly wagon for sometime had blown a head gasket they think and the electric window was stuck down so the birds raped the inside. so out come the interior and we cut the body which was bit dinted up but was completly rust free along with the chassis. now being a 92 it has the silver top motor which i gather is the better of the td42 diesels. the motor has only 120k on it so its done sweet f/a
k so back to the swap ive got the coil chassis with nothing on it bar motor, box diffs and fuel tank along with few other things. so the clean up will begin weekend after next with the chassis being cleaned up and resprayed to avoid rust and for the newish look...
i plan on running twin tanks still so will i have to swap over all my tanks or can i use the one thats in the chassis and bolt on my other tank or will my twin tanks of the leaf chassis have to be used????
as far as motors go my motor is a 97 model which was surposed to be rebuild 55k ago but it has cracked ring in number 3 cylinder as it was low comp 200psi and the blow by is horrific, ive run the breather of the tappet cover down under ute it while running it pumps smoke out bad. but the ute runs great starts great so im sure thats all it it. but seen as tho i have the better motor im pulling the head of and checking the bottom end out while at it to make sure its ok. bloke in town will give the head the once over and will smack it back toghther with fresh hoses, water pump and anything else that can be replaced as im after the most reliable ute i can get.also my current turbo setup will be put in place on the new motor with intercooler coming town the track!!!!
the ute will mainly be a work truck but with piging and 4x4 driving on weekends ive decided to go with 4inch flexi coils heavy all round as wait will be nearly always on it with winch and bullbar up front... as for shocks we are doing open to close measurments on the springs b4 getting shocks but id say 6inch efs big bores will be the chosen item...!!! i have drop boxes to fit and we're strenghning all the upper and lower arms. along with while the chassis is bare strenghtning the rear spring towers to avoid problems town th track. will be raising the front shock towers to fit the longer shocks, question here!! With longer shocks will i have to raise the rear shock mounting points also???????
35inch tyres are in the shed waiting so it should be a fun off road truck.
down the track not to far i will be getting superflex arms to make it flex better and get the most out of the shock lenght and flexi coils
so ill get photos up of the progress and keep everyone posted..
any advice on anything ive mentioned will be great
cheers kano
