Hey i have a 4.5l 80 series turbo running 13psi, out for drive last night and it just stoped. have power to fuel pump but no spark. the rotar buttun is not spining. i was thinking cam shaft is f@#ked.any other thoughts on this would be great. Also if it is the cam, what would be the best upgrade for it. cheers

i would be thinking more like the timing belt. Which if it broke most likely have bent valves aswell.

Although it is a vastly different engine, my corrola a few years back did exactly what you have said and as said it was a broken timing belt... If it snapps then the rotor button will not spin causing spark.
But the mechanic told me the engine was lucky and 'free wheeled'... (did not bend any valves)
I would think if it was a cam shaft it would gradually get worse and still run, just run like s**t.

unlikely but is the gear on the end of the dizzy (the one you only see if you pull the whole dizzy off) plastic? I have seen one of these fatigue and crack the teeth off and as such rotor not spin.
but another vote for potencial timing belt.

i was under the impression this engine was chain driven like "most" of the other petrol toyota engines.. i guess you learn something ever day? petrols have never interested me.

as 1FZ's run a chain this is pretty unlikely....

slightly related, i was driving my old civic several years ago, did some hard driving and the car just stopped. it was just the gear on the dizzy. nothing else was wrong. car still turned over just wouldnt fire.

1FZ-FE's defiantly run a timing chain and not a belt. I would be removing the rocker cover and having a look as you should be able to see what has happened. Very intertested to find out what has gone wrong, pictures are a must!

so i take it that this engine is also a free spinning engine so to speak as there was no valve damage?
