1.3 over heating at 80kph - 110kph

noticed that my sierra's engine temp rise's to 3/4 of the temp gauge while on the highways - is this normal? does anyone else's do this or may i have a heating problem? its fine driving around town juz heats up on the motorways...also revs are at 3500rpm @ 100kph - is that normal?

3500 rpm sounds close but all depends on what tyres, gears you are running.
The overheating could be that your radiator may need a flush and clean.
You will find that some of your fins may be blocked with crap. (mud maybe)
One of my zooks was doing the same thing. was ok around town but up the freeway it would get hot, so I flushed the radiator out but this did not fix it. I had to take it completly out and take it to a radiator shop for a proper flush and clean. All better now.

true ae...yea my sierra is stock as a rock - 205/70/R15's..might have to get it properly flushed and fixed..

yea gotta fan shroud, rang a radiator place and they'll flush and clean the core out for $77, seems like a good price so i'll get that done friday and give yas an update - i didnt think the radiator would be clogged but apprently it is or likely is

i bought a alloy core plastic tank one off ebay for about 220 delivered i think. havnt had a problem with it and its kept the temps under control even with the bigger engine.

I think you are wrong - you're saying hundreds of CFM being drawn though the radiator can't make a difference over 60km/h?
It's much easier to generate pressure differential by lowering the pressure behind the radiator than it is by raising the pressure in front of it - that's why puller fans always work better than pushers.

My radiator is pretty stuffed, but, I do not have a shroud, only a small electric fan, and no overheating probs as long as I stay up in speed.
Only time the fan comes on is when working hard, when cruising, no drama, even towing a trailer full of wood.
id be getting a master gauge and checking the temp in real degrees first, then you can tell if its only 1 or 2 degrees over normal.
I hate stupid little flip gauges that say nothing other than showing blue white and red, er, what does that mean in real time temp.

those alloy E-bay ones are the shizz for what you pay for them, mine has certainly stood up to some abuse- 46 degrees in middle of desert in kalgoorlie up and down hills with no wind, couldnt even move the needle past 1/4

thats all well and good if your fan is drawing more air than what is being forced in through it but how much work do you think a viscous hub is doing once your road speed is over 60kmh. if you like you can remove your fan and shroud and if you overheat your engine over 60kmh with a clean radiator, i'll shout you another one!

mine blew a head gasket and warped the head, no biggie i just got the head milled flat and put a new gasket in it, tough as

have you checked to see if your fan is installed backwards ?
The fan could be blowing air against the radiator and fighting the natural flow of the air if it's on backwards

Clogged radiator cores for sure. Get it cleaned properly and everything will be fine
