What are the advantages/disadvantages of both?
Both will be identical age, similar kms, and both have a 1hdfte engine, just wondering whether i should go solid axle or ifs??
I do mainly road driving, some light off roading, some beach, and want it mainly for touring to cape etc...so just wondering if i should go ifs or solid axle and why?Is the ifs that much better on road than solid axle? Thanks

Toyota never released a HDJ 105 series only HZJ 105 and for a factory turbo diesel HDJ 100 ly
AKA
100 series means/has IFS (independent front suspension)
105 seires means/has SFA (solid front axle)
HDJ factory turbo diesel
HZJ NON turbo disel
So either someone has put a factory 1HD-FTE turbo diesel motor in the 105 series or just put a after market turbo kit on the 1hz non trb diesel motor
hope this helps mate..and the hzj 105 (non turbo SFA) has a smaller gear box than the petrol and turbo diesel cruisers

As much as i hate to say it if i were you i would get a 100 series factory TD (1hdfte) with ifs
i would never personally own an ifs truck but by the sounds of it it will be just fine for what you want and need
The reason i say this is there is no comparison between the 1hdfte(ifs) and the 1hz(sfa)
the 1hdfte uses a lot less fuel when pushed ,has a much stronger driveline,if you ever plan on towing anything 1hdfte is the only way, most importantly they go GREAT! if you are doing more than 110 kph in a 1hz there is nothing left to overtake safely with out a really long stretch of road
the only thing better is a 105 with 1hdfte retrofitted
105 series 1hz aftermarket turbo FORGET IT it is a grenade and so is the gearbox behind it 1hz was never meant to have a turbo the head and pistion design is all wrong and cracks to pieces after x number of kms.
most of the people who think there 1hz turbo is fine have never had their head off to see the damage to the precom chambers
plus adding a turbo to these motors 9 times out of 10 makes them drink more fuel than a na 1hz which is already more than the 1hdfte

The hzj105 has been transplanted with a 1hdfte motor and gearbox...so thats why i was wondering...any other suggestions now knowing that they are pretty much identical except for the ifs and solid axle?
Thanks

if it has been done well grab it as fast as you can with both hands
will be much better for cape trip due to no cv boots and they seem less prone to busting front diffs than th ifs especially when fitted with lockers
basically front end is much more robust it has the best of both worlds
good engine good front end

Hey Andrew, which one is the one that looks like 105 wheels?
How hard is it to convert an independant front to a solid axle? I would really like to update my TD80 to a TD100 but, like many others, I want the factory 1HDFTE and the solid front end due to spending a lot of my driving off road.

The chassis rails on the 100 series under the doors are wider appart than the 105 series due to the torsion bars running up the guts of them but the conversion in possible but i wouldsay putting a factory turbo motor in a 105 would be easier

And that hdj100 on ebay with the 105 series rims you can see they stick out the rear guards die to the 100series having a wider front and rear track than 105 series

It goes well
I want it .. I want it now .... gimme.

I'm thinking of bunging an intercooler on it when I get back to Townsville. Can anyone recomend somehwere / someone who can do a good -cheapish job?
Looks good .... I'll get a mechanical check (not from Cletus) and if it passes, I'll take it. C'Mon Barnsey .... I'll trade my 80 on it and you will still have an excellent car PLUS some folding stuff in your hand (as compared to what other stuff might be in your hand
)
