Hi all, not sure if i already started a thred with my conversion in it but i cant find it so ill start another one.
I purchased a 2000 GU with the zd30 motor in it. I got it for a reasonable price becasue the motor had been seized due to an offroad incident involving the front drive shaft and the oil sump. I then decided to use my spare td42 and give it a bit of a birthday and do the 3l to 4.2 convesion.
All this was about 3-4 months ago.
Anyway as of now the engin has been fully rebuilt and has finnaly been put in the GU and wired up. How ever i have a few little issues to deal with which im hoping someone on here could help me out with.
1st - The tacho does not work, has anyone who has done this conversion overcome this problem and how?
2nd - the engine light is on perminatly i was thinking of just taking out the glob or disconection the feed to the indicator, or is there another simple way?
cheers in advanced
Ash.

I rewired my 4.2 from a 2.8, you will be in the same position. the ECU runs to the tacho with one wire, you will need to run two wire to the dash, I ran a loom in from the tacho sensor to the back of the dash, and wired it in to the existing tacho wire from the computer and then all so used the other terminal in the dash that is unused for the computer models, I was able to find a unused wiring pin in the dash plug and reposition it in the correct stop for the tacho. the pins I used were 1 and 44, I think you should check on a wiring diagram as it is clear from there, (following my instructions) . I have the diagrams here some were, ill have a look.

well im still working on the tacho, but i have a new problem now. My clutch is slipping at half throttle, and Ive put in the most heaviest duty pressure plate i could buy off the shelf. who does comp spec clutches for the gq/gus?
p.s the engine has not been rebuilt to standard have estimate of 200rwkw or possibly more.

you sure its not a clutch adjustment issue? having a button clutch would be useless as there is no slip in them.. meaning you cant ride it at all to take off on bighills..

gudday smash
been workin hard on ya project? good on ya!
post some pics mate.
The excedy tough clutch should hold it together - up to 180rwkw anyway.
What have ya got in there?
Is it bleed issues?
If it is try this - as the clutches are a bastard to bleed from empty, it is likely there is air trapped in the bleed line that runs up the fire wall then down to the bleed nip.
the best way i have found is to remove nip on slave and with a oil can force fluid in there with bleed nip off.
good luck

If its a TD42 (i) model the one with the electronic needle sensor in the number 1 injector the only things that will cause the engine light to be on in this is the injector being faulty and its also a warning lamp for water in fuel iirc anyone else have anything to contribute to what i have said , as for the clutch i am assuming you used the same box and removed the adaptor fitted to it for the ZD engine check your fork and throwout bearing was for the td and make sure u didnt have to force the box and engine together with the bolts the last little bit does anything there ring any bells?
