Outer Limits 4x4 Board

I just bought a ’78 2 door rangie.
The only problem with it, is that the transfer will not change in to high range. It appears to be stuck in low range. It will shift into neutral but the leaver meets some form of resistance when it trying to engage high range.
Has anyone ever come across this problem before and does anyone know how I would go about repairing the problem?

if know one has come across the problem before, who would people recomend to repair my transfer case? sydney or melb, it doesn't really matter cause i'm about equal distance from both.
If i was to remove and open the lt95 up myself would i be opening up a can of worms or are they simple to work on once they are removed?

When you baught it did it ever work?

Try LRA in Melbourne they should be able to recomend who to bring it too... or drop it yrself and pull it apart... not too hard to fix...
The little ball might be stuck or worn out...

My County has done the exact same thing (it has the same LT95 gearbox)

Havnt fixed it yet but when I move the lever from low range to neutral and then try to move to high range I get the mechanical resistance I just jiggle it a little bit and move it sidways a bit and then it slips into high range, no probs.

When this stops working I will pull the thing apart and fix it properly - I figger something has fallen off the selector shaft inside the transfer box.

Same thing happended in my 76 2 door, push forward to where you feel the resistance and then wiggle it left and right as well as forward and it should slide through, another trick is to stop on a slight incline with the nose facing up hill and try the same thing.

Had this happen out field last year in a 110, the VM's came out and there is a pin on the gearstick/selector shaft that had slipped/snapped. Took them 5 mins to fix. Didn't need to remove box did it all from the top.

Try changing low to high while crawling in 2nd or 3rd, accelerate gently then back off and shift low to high while there is that bit of engine braking. I find that when my LT95 wont go into high, and this works every time (SO FAR)!.

i opened the case up, it turns out there is some sort of ring that is stoping the selector sliding back in to high range. the ring is in the space between high range and netural. somehow this ring has worked loose, the guy i bought it of apparently only just had it rebuilt and then it started playing up again, so i maybe it wasn't re-assembled quiet right. (i hope that makes sense)
it will be a very easy fix when i find time to pull the case out and fix it properly. i'm just not going to take it offroad untill i've finished doing some mods anyway, so high range only will do for a while.
