Useless pile of relays

Sheesh, I have been obtaining spare relays at the wreckers while buying other stuff, and just noticed that all the bosch ones from late commodores have a weird pin arrangement where 30 and 85 are swapped.

This is different from all the aftermarket relays I've seen AND from every other car I've ever worked on.

Is it common?

They are very common on europian vcehicles, and on holdens

Interesting... well, if anyone wants some I've got about 20 of them. I don't really want to wire them in anywhere because I prefer to stick to the pin layout I am used to.

Used but in good order.

Is it worth taking them back to the wrecker and asking to swap... or were they "obtained" :?:

Well, the story is as follows: I bought a couple of commodore relay/fuse/fusible link units, the VP-VS or whatever era items. They work really well for custom power distribution as they are kind of modular and look good [discussed in another thread somewhere].

The price for a fuse box at this place is about twenty bucks, the price of a relay is about five bucks. There are 12 relays on each unit if it is fully populated. But usually they just look at it as a fuse box and charge the twenty... which would have been a stellar deal if only the relays were the ordinary kind. So no I didn't pinch them, I put them on the counter and paid for them, but on the other hand they didn't really charge me for them either.

It's no big deal I have plenty of the other kind as well because I always keep them. But I have 24 (I think) that I doubt I will use.

I realise I could use them by wiring the bases differently but I don't want the confusion; I like the fact that the relays are all basically interchangeable.

Ahh! fair enough, their misfortune for not checking.

I agree with your choice of not using them.

Sell them back to the wrecker? say you picked got them from a wreck you bought

Sure, why not! I'm in Boronia. Or give me a postal address by PM and I'll send you a few.

Anyone else want any?

I have about 25 single-throw and a couple of change-over ones. Despite the thread title they aren't really useless, in fact they are useful if you have a Euro car or a Holden.
