Just bought a 720 watt geni from bunnings - a cheapie to keep in the camper.
My question is, will it run a battery charger which runs at 6.2 amp to charge my Engel??
Cheers,
Dave.

To charge the deep cycle battery that runs the Engel I meant to say.

720watts draws 3.1 amps. so i would say no.

Yep, will do no problem.
6.2 amps at 14V is only around 85W, even with a 15% power loss in the charger that is still less than 100W.

Most cheap gennies have a 12v charger built in. or is it just a 12v output??

its just a 12 volt output , what is wierd is when you hook that connection up to your battery you can hear the load on the motor and on mine it is something like 5 amps output max , but hook up a 10 amp 240 volt charger and it hardly phases it

you will probably find the cheaper gensets are outputting a modified square wave form, not true sin wave, and I suspect the electronics in the engel won't like it, possible run hot for example. This being if you try to run it off the 240v output. Not sure about running directly off the dc jack though. A quick call to an engel agent would clear this up.
