Gday i am resonably new here and i have a 1988 gq patrol 4.2 dual fuel i also have been playing around with my gas system by running flexible gas line and mounting the gas line up nice and high out of harms way anyway to the point of my quesion i have rewired all the wiring for the gas because it was done dogdy and wires where all over the shop.now i bought a gas change over swith out of a falcon which has the gauge incorparated in it, i like that it is compact and neat anyway the switch dosnt have a middle position ie. neaither gas or petrol. because the falcon was efi and mines carby i need to some how cut the fuel into the carby. and know the factory nissan carby has a fuel cut of solnoid at the rear of the carb. i was just wondering if anyone has wired that solinoid up so that when u flick the switch straight over to gas it cuts all fuel goin into the carb?? i done a quick test to that solinoid to see if it will cut fuel from the carb (i had the car running on petrol and run a jumper wire from the + on the battery to the + on the solinoid and the second i tounched the wires the car died off a bit but then increased revs back to idle and it didnt stop the engine) just wondering if it could be a faulty solinoid or fuel is still bypassing some how . if anyone is able to help me or has done the same thing would you be able to explain in detail and it will be very much appreciated. you could P.M if you want but i would rather just reply to the topic so everyone can see and maybe others might want to try the same setup thaks alot justin

it will die like that, just remember it will take a while as the bowl is full of fuel still!

hey thanks for that but i thought the solinoid at the front of the carby cuts fuel into the bowl but the solinoid at the back of the carb would cut fuel into the carb idle circut which should make the the engine die instancely if it was at idle shouldnt it? do u know anyone who has used this solinoid to there avantage or does anyone have a changover switch with out a middle section (neither on gas or petrol). thanks and hope to here from someone shortly.
