Welding Drag link

The Paj's don't have a steering dampener from factory, so i am in the process of fitting one up. I've migged a bracket on the chassis and have clamped the opposite end to the drag link with u bolts and a bracket. I'm thinking though of welding a "tag" onto the drag link so there is no chance of it slipping.

What are your thoughts of welding the drag link? I was under the impression that steering components should not be exposed to heat, ie Welding/Oxy etc. Should i weld on the tag or leave it with the clamps?

laws australia wide say no welding to steering components (unless its then xrayed or passed by an engineer). but you could always call an engineer and explain what you're wanting to do and see what their thoughts are?? most are helpful like that.

clamp will not slip unless you have exceided the stroke of the damper and physically pushed/pulled it from position.

Don't do it. (weld, that is)

It *should* be fine, and I have welded steering links on offroad only cars before without a problem, but it's a massive no-no without inspection and/or approval.

clamped steering damper mounts are fine.
