guys can anyone help.

i've just bought a 91 sj70 (g13b) and am chasing a massive oil leak from the back of the block. I originally thought it was a rear main and have removed gearbox and clutch only to find it clean as a whistle. while under there though i noticed a metal nozzle coming out of the bottom of the fuel pump with no hose attached to it, this nozzle comes out heading towards the firewall and then angles down to end up pointing to the transmission. it would sit directly above the starter motor which was covered in engine oil.
my question is what is it for, is it supposed to have a hose on it and if so where the hell does it go to cause i can't work it out.
cheers,

Mike.

91 is the magic age for fuel pump failure in sierras IMHO.

It's time for a new fuel pump.

The tube you refer to is the drain that leaks when the fuel pump is shot.

so if the fuel pump has had it it leaks motor oil out that drain?

Yep. They'll either leak oil, or fuel out of that breather, depending on which seal fails. It's a warning in either case. It's possible to block that breather up (and I've done it in the past) but the next failure will be the diaphragm on the pump and you'll fill the sump up with fuel (because the fuel can't come out of the breather to keep the engine safe)

thanks dude. i was pulling my hair out over that one

i removed the transfer, gearbox and clutch to replace seals and it was something this simple all along  . ah well i had to degrease the box down anyway lol.

cheers,
Mike.

While its out you may as well replace the rear main anyway. Buy a genuine Suzuki seal too, aftermarket seals just arent worth it. Its a bastard having to remove the box again after a month cos its started to leak again... beleive me i know. And when a certain Exhaust shop in Waverley made a complete fark up of youre exhaust system, its a bastard to get the box out.
