Who has intercooled a 12HT? need help

couldnt find much of help in bible or search,

Im trying to mount up a front mount intercooler to my 60 with the 12HT however i have run into a problem with the butterfly and the vaccuum set up and being able to turn the key off and have the engine stop as normal. i can pretty easily put a barb on the piping to allow for the vacuum line to go into but space is fast becoming an issue. Im just wondering what other people have done in the way of adaptor plates ect to mount up their intercooler piping with the vacuum set up and the butterfly. cheers, perko

Hi Perko,

It's a bit cold and wet outside for me to go and check my 12HT, but I thought the shut off was on the vacuum line. There is no vacuum in the intercooler/turbo lines - that's all pressure. I may misunderstood what you wrote, but I thought you mean you will weld a barb onto the intercooler/turbo lines and join that barb onto the shut off. If so, I think you've got it wrong and the vacuum comes from the vac pump on the alternator. It feeds a few other things too, but that's easy to trace around the place.

One of the pressure lines from the turbo goes to the back of the IP if I recall correctly and that is to adjust fuel supply under boost conditions. So you will still need a barb and run rubber hose, but to the IP, not the shut off butterfly.

When the exhaust chappy made up my 3", he was hoping to use the existing dump pipe but in the end couldn't due to the tight corner to lead to the outside of the chassis rails. He had a flange that bolted onto the turbo outlet, then fashioned a piece of 3" exhaust tubing from a donut into the shape of the flange and welded it into place. Again, I can't go check right now, but I thought you would be able to do that too for the inlet manifold if you can get a flange to fit the top of the manifold. Or get the current inlet pipe cut so you get to use the existing flange and have a new piece of ally with a 90° bend welded to it.

I'd be interested in where you have run the piping and what you used. It's all a bit tight like you say. Any pictures??

thanks tim, have only mocked it up for now which is why i was looking at the butterfly yea my mistake withthe vacuum line its a pressure line. i will post a couple of photos when i finish it is very tight but i will be moving my batteries from under the bonnet and having the inlets and outlets of the cooler at the top with the help of a few rubber bends im hoping to get there pretty easily
