Hey again.
Im just trying to work out the differences between the two jeeps. Im mostly interested in their off-road ability.
1995-2001 is the sort of era im looking at. The car will be modified to do medium to hard 4x4 tracks. Lockers lifts etc.
Thanks for the help.

Grand is coils all round
XJ cheorkee is leaf rear coil front
Rear dif's are different, the alloy 44 then latter grand can be a little hard to find lockers
cheorkee is prob cheaper to mod but not by much the grand is the one with all the luxo items inside loads of info just google them you will have hours of reading

Thanks for the reply. Im not that fussed over the luxury stuff dont get me wrong its nice but you just pay extra for it. There are some nice XJ's with leather either way. Yeh I will have to google it and do some of my own research me thinks.

The Grand's also have a longer wheelbase. There is about 100x more XJ info around then there is for Grands but as they're a US car both are used a lot in a country with a lot more people then ours so you can still find a plethora of info on the grands.

I think Grand is better.Because more comfortable,more engines,more power and torque,more articulation.

XJ Cherokee has either a 4.0L six and or a 2.5L T/Diesel (which is a POS)
ZJ Grand Cherokee has only a 4.0L six (there were V8's in the US)
So same power, same torque.
Articulation is arguable, both don't like lifts over around 3.5 inch's. But both have plenty of articualtion in stock form.

XJ's can generally be found cheaper, there are far more after market mods for the XJ. But built XJ
s are more common.
ZJ also has the rear Turdy35, but gets disc brakes and coils all round. There is no SYE available for the ZJ unless you swap t/case. Parts are a little harder to get and the ABS contunally fails toi impresss. Also the ZJ has CV's in the front axles shafts as well as the front tail shaft - both are best swapped out.
Really unless you really want to build something a little more different, the XJ is a no-brainer.
