My thread about arc welding - can be done. Just picked up some 316L rods today from my local steel joint for a buck each (only needed a couple).

I have MIG'd stainless to mild successfully with both .9 mig wire and argosheild, and stainless mig wire and argon. Tig aswell.

have used 316L and er70s4 (LW1) in the past to weld 304 and 316 to mild without any issues, i don't think youd have a problem, if in doubt do a test weld on some scrap and destructively test it!?

I used a gasless mig with steel flux core to mod my exhaust using some stainless tube, this incolved mild-stainless and stainless-stainless. No issues so far and that was 2 yrs ago, only thing is it doesn't look quite as nice as if it had been done properly
