anyone done it? assassin?
thinking of ordering some while the dollar is still good, just wondering if anyone else has done the conversion and if they thought it improved the rear end ride quality?
im looking at 2.5 remote res FOA shocks as the price is just awsome. (landed for just under $1200 for all 4)

you have afew options if being made, you can run the gas and the gas piston in the res and reduce your overall lenght compressed, because they are a big long shock to fit, and they wont just "bolt on".
Front you will need custom coils to stay captive to get the length you need to work, and you will need to modify the mounts, rear the same, as your compressed length will be aporx 450mm for the travel you will be able use.
Also, buy some spares, as you dont want the only shocks no one has heard of, and can never fix them and have the car off the road waiting for parts. You also probably wont get the valving spot on first time, and will need to be able to tune them.
I cant say the bypass will fit without more work, as they are a big shock to fit in anywhere.
We have done 2.0 remote res as bolt ons before ut not custom as yet, I do have a 79 in a few weeks time to convert to coil rear, which will get longer shocks.
If you go bypass, i would specify a different design to what they show on the website, more suited to what would normally be done with a bypass shock.

thanks assassin, thats what i wanted to hear.... sort of. i didnt even look at the shock lengths, they are a fair bit shorter than almost all the other remote res shocks available. The shock parts i can get locally from my local shock/hydraulic bloke and my mechanic. plus the valves are interchangeable with kings.
i was hoping on only changing the top mount of the shock mount too and use a pin to eye convertor on the diff to lessen the fab work needed but after looking hard today im thinking it might be better to just do both. As for the rear, didnt even think that the sleeves being 3/4 would matter but the biggest the heims come in is 5/8ths so i guess theyll have to be done too.
I was planning to change to very soft 4 inch springs instead of hard 2 inch springs on the front for comfort to keep the spring captive and because i like the feel of soft springs and firm shocks.

If you run firmer valving, the pin to eye convertors wont last.
Best to do it properly from the start.
On the rear, see if they do 19mm hourglass bush housings, that way they will go straight on the bottom, but your top mounts will need to be alot higher to fit the longer shocks.
You will need around 10"stroke shocks front, and 10-12"rear.

thanks heaps assassin. I am not looking at the foas anymore. Looking at 2.0 foxes instead for the same price. At the moment inthe standard mounts i can fit 11" fronts and 12" rears after coverting the front too eye mounts properly. These come with the hourglass bushes and sonny from downsouth motorsport says he can do a pretty close valving to what i might like but is sending me a valving kit with the shocks anyway. The front valving is easy as it is much the same as an 80 series which the yanks have.
Wish you were up north as i dont like any of the shock specialists up here who can do the fab aswell. I want to convert to coil rear soon too but will try the shocks and see if it improves the ride. I just cant find 5g at the moment for rear coils.
Thankyou

We are about to appoint a Brisbane dealer in the next few weeks, and will be up that way to get it up and running.
Fab for good shocks is part of this one man bands operation, so may work out.
80 valving is heavier than 79 valving, which is between gq and 80 in valving spec, but work well. you could go a little firmer than 80.
If you valve the rears to suit gq coil rear, you will find that works pretty well
